The Perryville Development Corporation began as a community project of the Industrial Committee of the Chamber of Commerce in 1953. The Committee recognized that competition between communities such as ours is so keen that a community must be organized and fully prepared to out-sell others, if we are to gain industrially. The committee proposed forming a development corporation which, in effect, would provide a long term preparedness plan, making it possible for our community to act without delay when opportunities were presented.
The Chamber of Commerce paid all expenses incurred in setting up this corporation and The Perryville Development Corporation was chartered on June 29, 1954. The corporation issued 20,000 shares of capital stock at par value of ten (10) dollars each. Funds raised from the sale of capital stock were made available for loans to industrial concerns, to help them construct or acquire industrial buildings for manufacturing purposes. The first shareholders meeting was held on the third Wednesday in July, 1955.
The Perryville Development Corporation was formed to help promote the industrial development of our community. The purpose of The Perryville Development Corporation is to aid and promote new business industries for the city of Perryville and vicinity by:
a) using money and funds of the corporation to help construct and/or acquire industrial sites in Perryville and vicinity, and
b) constructing or acquiring facilities for lease or sale to existing or prospective industries.
Its benefits to the community can be measured by increased employment, payroll, business volume and corresponding factors. It does not exist for monetary profits to its shareholders.
The charter of The Perryville Development Corporation provides for twenty directors to be elected by the shareholders, who have full charge of the business of the corporation. To be eligible to be a director a shareholder must be an individual shareholder of the Perryville Development Corporation and a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Perryville, MO
The prime objective of the corporation is to invest in the future of Perryville and contribute to the general welfare of the community. The pamphlet published in 1954 stated, "Your investment in the PDC means that you are investing in a community project which does not guarantee that your investment will be returned, as this money will be used to help finance industries desiring to establish or expand their operation in our community."
Accomplishments:
Perryville Industrial Park
Originally purchased 100 acres
Utilities and paved streets added
Construction of two spec buildings
McBride Industrial Site
Purchase and sale
TG USA Corporation
Solar Press, Inc.
Following its formation in 1954, Perryville Development Corporation purchased land and established the Perryville Industrial Park. Utilities and paved streets were added as the park developed and additional land was acquired and developed to meet the needs of new and expanding industries. The Corporation also purchased and sold the McBride Industrial Site. In addition, three Spec Buildings were constructed which were sold or leased to existing and new industries.
The Corporation has been very instrumental in attracting industries such as Gilster-Mary Lee Corporation, TG (USA) Corporation, Solar Communications, Inc., NPS Corporation, and T-N-T Plastics Corporation to the Perryville area. Perryville Development Corporation's benefits to the community can easily be measured by increased employment, payroll, business volume and corresponding quality of life factors.
